Cool Things To Do After You Die

For most people, death is followed by an eternity of laying in a casket underground or sitting in an urn above the fireplace. That’s all well and good, but it turns out there are so many better options out there. Being buried or cremated aren’t your only options! Why not turn yourself into a tree or even better, a coral reef? Check out these seven cool things that you can do after you die.


Become a Tree
Product designer, Gerard Moline has developed a “Bios Urn” that can take your ashes and turn you into a tree! The urn contains a seed (whatever you decide to plant), nutrients and other necessities, and finally your ashes. The urn is then planted in the ground and a natural tombstone begins to grow.

Fire Yourself Out of a Cannon
Hunter S. Thompson was not known for doing anything ordinary and his funeral was no different. On August 20, 2005, a private ceremony was held where his ashes were fired from a cannon to the tune of Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky” and Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man.” The cannon was placed atop a 153 ft tower of his own design, in the shape of a double-thumbed fist clutching a peyote button. The funeral was funded by his good friend, Johnny Depp.

A company called “Eternal Reefs” has started a service where your loved ones can create a customized reef using a mixture of concrete and your ashes. Once completed, a charter boat takes all the family members to the reef site to witness its placement into the ocean. After the reef is dropped into the water, it will act as a home for marine life.

If you’ve invented something important, why not be buried in it? That’s what the creator of the Pringles can did. Dr. Fredric J. Baur’s ashes currently reside inside a Pringles can at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati, Ohio. No word on which flavor, but I would have chosen sour cream and onion.
